Solar Lighthouse Wind Spinners

Before the development of clearly defined ports mariners were guided by fires built on hilltops.  Since raising the fire would improve the visibility, placing the fire on a platform became a practice that led to the development of the lighthouse.  The lighthouse functioned more as a entrance marker to ports than as a warning signal for reefs.

Now in the USA you could use a beautiful solar lighthouse wind spinner to light up your entrance.  Keeping your outdoor entry inviting for your family and guests.  Our solar wind spinners can be used year round and is a fun way to light up your patio or porch.  Your solar lighthouse wind spinner should be placed in a sunny area during the day to absorb the sun's energy for nighttime lighting.

We have a variety of charming solar wind spinners that use no electricity and make a fun addition to your yard.  Your neighbors and guest will have to have one!  The solar lighthouse wind spinner makes a great gift but you could pick from several different themes.  Check out our solar wind spinners at Whirlywindyspinners.com !

How to buy a Yard Spinner

Yard Spinners add personality, whimsical movement and fabulous color to a yard or garden. There are so many designs, colors, sizes & themes to choose from. The best way to decide on your yard spinner is to stop and consider a few elements concerning your garden or yard.

Consider style. Think about the type of garden in which you wish to put a yard spinner in. For example, if you have a country style garden then you might pick a whirligig yard spinner that is a women watering her flowers (animated). Another kind of yard spinners you could add for country style could be a hummingbird wind spinner. Here are a couple of pictures:

Consider color.  Choose your yard spinner in a color that will coordinate with or complement your garden.  Look for yard spinners that have sturdy stakes or are made with top grade materials. Also make sure that the metal parts of your wind spinners are rust proof.  In addition, you need to make sure that the material is made for outdoor weather.

Legend of the Gazing Ball

The Glorious Gazing Ball has had many names like: Garden Ball, Gazing Globe and Garden Globe and has been referred to as a Witch Ball, Butler Globe, Globe of Happiness and Victorian Ball. Though the reflective, colorful globe might seem "odd" to some folks, the gazing ball is rich in history and legend.

History of the Globe

Its history , as colorful as the ball itself, had its roots in the 13th century when it was made in Venice, Italy by skilled craftsmen. It was hand blown then just as it is still done today.  A fifteenth century priest, Antonio Nier, called it a Sphere of light and , as time passed, the colorful ball became a permanent fixture in the European garden and home. King of Bavaria during the 1800's, adorned his palace, a replica of Versailles, with the globe.

Legend of the Globe

The Mysterious powers of the ball was said to bring happiness, good luck and prosperity to those who owned it.  The Globe was also known to ward of illness, misfortune, evil spirits, and witches!

The Gazing ball purpose vary from story to story.  Some say the ball should be placed near the entrance to the house so that if a witch came to your house she would not be able to get past her reflection, as she can't tear herself away from her own image. Others say a witch can't bear to see her own reflection so she will not come near a "witch's ball".  The smaller ball made of colored glass as opposed to the reflective kind was believed to attract and trap evil spirits.

Today the Glorious Gazing Ball comes in many different shapes and sizes!  One of my favorite is the Gazing Ball wind spinner!  Whirlywindyspinners.com has a wonderful selection of just the right gazing ball wind spinner thats just right for you.

Garden Ornaments and Information

The wind spinners are beautiful garden ornaments that will make the garden more cheerful with their unique colors and designs.  They originate from the wind mills and are also known as twister, spinner, twirler, pinwheel and eye-catcher.  The wind spinners are made of paper, plastic or metal wheel attached with a tholepin to a stick.  They are designed in such a way that they will spin when the wind blows.

The materials from which the wind spinners can be made include paper, plastic, stainless steel or even wood.  The stainless steel ones are better recommended because of their resistance to rusting, which is very important because these garden ornaments are to be placed outdoor, exposed to the outside conditions.

There are many different shapes, sizes, colors and designs of the wind spinners available on the market for everyone to find their favorite.  You can choose among flags, animals, hearts, hummingbirds, butterflies and just about whatever you can imagine for every decor and style.

Your wind spinner can be placed just about everywhere in the garden, or on the patio, or hanging from a tree, or maybe inside your home or office.  Outside the wind will blow them but inside you would need a rotating motor to keep your wind spinner moving so you will see the reflectivity of light from the sun as well as electric lighting shows a fabulous pulsating effect.
